Dr. Joan WHITTEN Miller ‘76 is an internationally recognized expert in macular degeneration, a progressive disease that can cause blindness and is the most common cause of vision loss in people over 50.
She is a leading pioneer in the discovery of treatments that can arrest and even reverse the progress of this disease.
Dr. Miller is the first woman to be named Chief of Ophthalmology at the renowned Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Chief and Chairperson of the Department of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School.
