Welcoming International Students to Our Boarding School for Girls

At The Bishop Strachan School, we make sure every student feels welcome, cared for and supported during their studies and beyond. This applies to both domestic and international students as they navigate through their academic learning, social lives and personal development.
It’s important to us at BSS to take the time to listen to and reflect on the voices of those in our community who experience barriers to inclusion. We use these moments to further our understanding of each student and their needs, and ensure that our curriculum is culturally responsive and focused on equity. At BSS, our community embraces diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Read on to learn more about the ways BSS welcomes international students.

Find Support From Committed Boarding Staff

BSS Boarding offers international students, like yourself, the opportunity to become more self-reliant and self-aware as you build your confidence with the help of a supportive community. Our Boarding staff includes a dedicated guidance counsellor and a school psychologist who work together to ensure your health and well-being when you decide to attend BSS.

Additionally, our Student Services department will further support you no matter the circumstances. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed as a new-to-BSS student, or you need assistance in preparing for university, our team is there to help. Other groups that you will find helpful throughout your time at BSS include our Teacher Advisory Groups and Family Advisory Groups, which will give you the opportunity to talk about personal and academic challenges.

Our Learning Resource Centre Further Accommodates Students

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at BSS is an added function of our all-girls school that fosters independence through strategy-based teaching. Assessing the needs of every student helps us identify where our assistance is needed and allows our staff to adjust their teaching methods accordingly.

This quiet place on our campus is a location where you can feel comfortable, with staff members you can trust. The LRC is a terrific place for all students, no matter their needs, to find individualized academic support. We also offer extra help through a drop-in peer tutoring program.

Welcome Activities at Our Boarding School for Girls

Every student at BSS, from JK to Grade 12, is assigned to one of 12 Houses, each with its own mascot. These Houses are a way for students to interact with students of different age levels and grades to further their sense of community and belonging. Making connections with other girls comes easily, with a number of fun and supportive organized activities throughout the year.

BSS also offers a number of other activities on and off-campus for students to participate in to pursue their interests. Some of these include athletics, drama, arts, music and clubs such as robotics, Model UN, DECA, Speakers Union and more. At BSS, we encourage every student to hone their academic skills through exploration and discovery through these campus-wide opportunities. When you choose our boarding school for girls, you are committed to making the world a better place as a confident, resilient leader.
