3 Co-Curricular Activities to Get Involved in at Our JK - Grade 12 Girls’ School

Students at The Bishop Strachan School have skills and passions that extend beyond the academic curriculum. We encourage and inspire our students through a wide range of co-curricular activities. Students learn important life lessons in the value of perseverance, trying new things, and learning from their mistakes.
From music and art to athletics and service learning, there are endless possibilities to explore at BSS. Whatever your child’s aspirations, we have something for them. Here’s a look at a few of the co-curricular activities we offer at BSS!

Get Creative With Music and Performing Arts

At BSS, we believe the arts are an integral way that young people engage with the world around them – and learn about themselves in the process. Creative expression is not only about the finished product; it’s a way for young people to build their confidence, find their voice, and above all, have fun.

At BSS, we encourage this process through music, visual and media arts, theatre, and dance. In art classes, students are given the freedom to experiment with different mediums to create personal and thought-provoking pieces of art. On the stage, students can sing in a choir, join a dance group, go behind the scenes of stage production, and more. For example, students at our high school for girls took part in an exciting musical production of ‘Prom - The Play’’ in 2022.

Whether our students are picking up an instrument for the first time or overcoming stage fright, our teachers are there to support each student in realizing their creative talent.

Experience Team Sports at Our All Girls School

Athletics at BSS is about more than physical activity. It is a way for our students to develop a goal-oriented mindset, experience the joy of teamwork, and build healthy habits for life. Whether it’s just-for-fun activities, trying a new sport, or training to compete at a high level, BSS offers something for every student. Team sports such as basketball, hockey, soccer, and more are on offer. Students can also explore individual activities such as archery, golf and alpine skiing.

In many cases, the best part about sports at BSS is the friendships and community spirit it builds. Students get to know their peers and bond as a team during games, which translates to a positive experience in the classroom and elsewhere. While supporting each other, our students also have the guidance of our teachers and counsellors who can help them stay on track with their academic courses.

Build Skills Through Student Leadership Roles

Our all girls school prides itself on encouraging students to be leaders in the classroom, in clubs and activities, and in other aspects of their lives. From JK through to Grade 12, we want students to understand the power of their own voice and their ability to make a positive difference in the world. Student leadership roles are a great way for students to build confidence, communication and decision-making skills.

In the Junior School, girls can get involved as learning buddies for younger students, running Chapel and Assembly, or by organizing community volunteering. By Senior School, our students feel confident taking on roles as House Heads, Mentors, Sports Captains, and leading academic or community groups. Through these experiences, students find personal growth while building a sense of pride in their school community.
