Improving Access to Our All Girls School in Toronto

The Bishop Strachan School works consistently to bring our private education for girls to more students and families near and far. Improving access to a strong and future-focused education is an important part of our mission to help students become independent, lifelong learners.
We support students and families who need extra help with the cost of education through tuition and program assistance. When it comes down to our commitment to providing inclusive and accessible education, financial assistance is a cornerstone of our efforts. We ensure that more girls can discover their strengths as leaders at BSS and beyond. Financial Assistance Options Help Reduce Barriers to Entry

Financial assistance options are available at our all girls school in Toronto for students in Grades 6-12 based on an assessment of financial need. Before students apply for financial aid, they’ll need to first apply to BSS to gain admission. Once they meet the admission requirements, new students looking to start their education at BSS next fall can apply for financial assistance before the January 6, 2023 deadline. For returning students, the deadline to apply is December 2, 2022.

Financial need is assessed by an independent third party, Apple Financial Services based on demonstrated need. This organization will then recommend to BSS the total amount to be awarded to the student’s education. On our February common offer day, applicants are emailed and informed on whether or not the financial assistance will be granted and if so, how much. In the 2021-2022 school year alone, BSS allocated $2.1 million in financial assistance. Each year, students are able to re-apply for financial assistance for the opportunity to be reassessed.

Scholarships Awarded Based on Student Merit

BSS also offers scholarships for students who demonstrate exceptional academic, artistic and athletic achievements. Students can complete a scholarship application outlining how they meet the scholarship criteria. The applicant will then be assessed on their merit, application, and admissions assessment criteria. With award amounts ranging anywhere from $2,500 to $20,000, BSS offers seven different scholarships offering tuition funds for students in need.

Scholarship application criteria vary for each option, and students can decide which one best suits their situation based on their year of study, area of study, and other award-specific requirements. For example, the Edward S. Rogers Family Scholarship, worth $10,000 annually, is awarded to up to six Senior School students. An applicant's academic performance and contributions as engaged members at BSS (or their previous school) will be considered. This could be anything from demonstrating the traits of a BSS Girl to participating in co-curricular activities, clubs, sports teams, and leadership positions. All scholarship applications are due by January 6, 2023, to be considered for fund allocation.
