Enrolling at BSS

If you’re thinking about coming to BSS, you’re in good company. Every year we welcome more than a hundred girls who find themselves embraced by a warm, welcoming and lively community. Before long, they can’t imagine being anywhere else. We’ll do everything we can to make this process as comfortable and informative as possible. Such a major decision can feel overwhelming and we’re here to ease the path to the right choice for you.

You can check out our website and go through the steps to apply to BSS with your parents (which we highly recommend!) – and that’ll give you a really good sense of BSS. But what about the other important things? Like the uniform and the rules and the teachers and the social stuff. Well, we’ve collected a few burning questions from students who are considering BSS and will share that here ver soon. In the meantime, if you have questions, let us know by emailing studentrecruiting@bss.on.ca and we’ll get right back to you!

You are welcome.

Our Group Tours and  Open House sessions will happen this fall and we would love to welcome you on campus for these engaging events. Our online application for enrolment into the 2018-19 school year will be available later in the summer. Scroll down on this page for info on tuition, financial assistance and road trips.

What an exciting time to be at BSS.

We can’t wait to welcome our new families to BSS in September 2017. For families with girls entering Junior Kindergarten to Grade 11 in the 2018-19 school year, we hope to see you in the fall during our Group Tour and Open House season. Registration for these events will open in late summer. Plan to come see us! Contact our team at studentrecruiting@bss.on.ca or 416-483-4325, ext. 1221.

Fall 2016 Open House

open-house-suzanne-debbie
We’ve welcomed dozens of girls and their families who are thinking about BSS for the 2017-18 school year to our Open House sessions last fall. We are planning an exciting Open House season for this fall and, in the meantime, if you are interested in BSS, please connect with us at studentrecruiting@bss.on.ca or 416-483-4325, ext. 1220.

Our Group Tour sessions were held in September and October, and we loved having so many families visit our campus. To visit us and explore what we’re offering for the 2017-18 school year, please contact our Student Recruiting Team – studentrecruiting@bss.on.ca or 416-483-4325, ext. 1220.

Stay tuned for the places, dates and times of our community information sessions. We are planning to be in communities around the Greater Toronto Area this fall, and we look forward to meeting families interested in learning more about BSS for their daughter.

We know that when you’re thinking about Boarding at BSS for your daughter, you are at home – usually somewhere besides Toronto. So though you may not be able to book a Group Tour or visit us at Open House, we can make sure you get all the information you need from the comfort of your home. Connect with Student Recruiting at 416-483-4325, ext. 2740. They will be happy to chat about enrolling to BSS as a boarder. And check below for On The Road dates when we may be visiting your area.

Interviews are planned to be specific and relevant to the grade of the applicant and vary in approach. All interviews will enable girls to:

  • Meet with Junior School teachers
  • Complete a reading and math assessment created by our teachers to understand the girls’ strengths and needs
  • Parents will meet with a member of the Student Recruiting Team

Middle School (Grades 7, 8)

Included in the interview time is a tour for the applicant and family with one of our Student Ambassadors – they can tell you all about what it is like to be a student at BSS. During the interview girls will:

  • Be interviewed one-on-one by a member of the Student Recruiting Team
  • Complete a 30-minute written assessment – this is designed to better understand how they critically think about big ideas and articulate opinions and ideas
  • Parents will meet with a member of the Student Recruiting Team

If families are planning to travel to Toronto during the school year please contact us at studentrecruiting@bss.on.ca to schedule an interview while you’re here. If you are able to have an in-person interview it will follow the same format as the Middle School or Senior School interviews.

If you will not be in the Toronto area, our team will contact you to arrange for a Skype or phone interview. During the interview girls will:

  • Be interviewed one-on-one by a member of the Student Recruiting Team
  • Parents will have an opportunity to speak with a member of the Student Recruiting Team

Independent schools in the Toronto area share a common offer date in February for day applicants. This is the day you will hear from BSS to let you know that you have been offered a spot at BSS or that you are on the waiting list.

The offer package will include information on securing a spot at BSS, and families will have one week to do so. Being on the waiting list means that there may not be enough space in the grade you have chosen or that the applicant may be considered for second round offers. Every year, approximately 130 girls make the decision to come to BSS and their lives change forever!

Tuition/Fees

The benefits of a BSS education are indisputable. Every year we send off into the world young women who have made lifelong friends and have come to know themselves and their boundless potential. As a non-profit independent school, tuition fees cover the bulk of what your daughter can expect at BSS: outstanding teachers, opportunities and resources, and the most effective education possible.

Are there extra costs?
School uniforms are required and can be purchased for approximately $800-$1,500. Used uniforms can be purchased at the BSS shop from $200-$500. There are costs associated with field trips and, in the Middle/Senior School, textbooks. Lunches and snacks are included in Junior School tuition.

What does the world need now?

It’s the question we ask in this striking awareness campaign. We believe the world needs compassion, equality, inclusion. We believe it needs confident, compassionate girls who want to change things, for the better. This is the message we share in our latest campaign, seen on city transit shelters, in the Billy Bishop City Centre Airport, online and the Walrus magazine, inviting families to our fall Open House. We thank our gracious student models.
