Please note that, at this time, all interviews will be conducted remotely in keeping with recommendations from public health authorities. We will provide detailed information on how to connect prior to your interview.

Junior School (Junior Kindergarten – Grade 6)
Meeting our prospective students and their families is a key part of our process at BSS. We will be interviewing students and parents in JK, Grades 3, 5 and 6. Interviews will occur from October through to mid February. For SK, Grades 1, 2 and 4, interviews and assessments will only occur as space becomes available.

Middle & Senior School (Grade 7 – 12)
During the interview prospective students will be interviewed one-on-one by a member of the Student Recruiting team. Parents will also have a chance to meet the team and ask any outstanding questions they may have. The interview is a chance to get to know you more, and there is no need to prepare in advance.

Please note that, at this time, in keeping with recommendations from public health authorities, all assessments for Grades 3 – 11 will be conducted online. We will provide detailed information once you have completed the online application.

Junior Kindergarten
We are hoping to host all Junior Kindergarten applicants and their families in February 2021 on campus, if public health guidelines allow. More information will be forthcoming regarding the assessment.

Grades 3 – 8
All applicants will be required to complete an online assessment on the following dates. We will provide detailed information once you have completed the online application.

Grades 3, 4 and 5 – January 30, 2021
Grades 6 and 7 – December 12, 2020
Grades 7 and 8 – January 16, 2021

Grades 9 – 11
Day and Boarding applicants applying for Grades 9 – 11 will be required to write the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) and complete the SSAT Character Skills Snapshot.

Families can register for the test at ssat.org. The SSAT may be written any time before the end of January, which will allow enough time for BSS to receive the scores. Please make sure that The Bishop Strachan School is selected as a score recipient when registering for the SSAT.

This year, applicants living in Canada or the U.S. may write the SSAT at home or at a Prometric Test Centre. International applicants should visit ssat.org for testing centre locations and dates. If there are no open test centres in your region, please contact us by email at studentrecruiting@bss.on.ca.

Non-Entry Years
We will interview and assess applicants for non-entry years only as space becomes available.

We believe that an outstanding education should be accessible to all and we are determined to provide opportunities to as many qualified applicants as possible. Our generous community makes donations in support of our Financial Assistance program because they know the value of a BSS education.

To be considered, please complete the Financial Assistance for Canadian Students (FACS) application form available on www.applefinancialservices.caThe deadline to apply for Financial Assistance and/or a Scholarship is Friday, January 8, 2021. Financial assistance decisions are separate from admission decisions.

BSS also offers a number of Scholarships. Please visit our Financial Assistance and Scholarship page to learn more.

All admissions decisions for Day applicants will be communicated through email to families on Friday, February 26, 2021. Decisions for Boarding applicants are done on rolling admission.

Tuition/Fees

The benefits of a BSS education are indisputable. Every year we send off into the world young women who have made lifelong friends and have come to know themselves and their boundless potential. As a non-profit independent school, tuition fees cover the bulk of what your daughter can expect at BSS: outstanding teachers, opportunities and resources, and the most effective education possible.

Are there extra costs?
All students must wear a school uniform, which can be purchased from the BSS General Store. The cost will be between $300-$800 depending on the grade and whether you are purchasing new or used items. There are additional costs associated with field trips, textbooks, and technology. Once again, these will vary depending on the grade. For Junior School students, lunches and snacks are included in tuition.

What does the world need now?

It’s the question we ask in this striking awareness campaign. We believe the world needs compassion, equality, inclusion, and confident, compassionate girls who want to change things, for the better. This is the message we share in our latest campaign, seen on city transit shelters, in the Billy Bishop City Centre Airport, online and print publications, inviting families to our fall Open House. We thank our gracious student models.
