Our Board of Governors provides direction for our core strategic plan, while our Board of Trustees manages our growing Endowment and Foundation initiatives. Both Boards work closely with each other and the Senior Leadership Team to champion innovation while strengthening our financial sustainability.
Valerie is Partner and Managing Director at Gibraltar & Company, Venture Capital and Board Director. Her current and former board experience includes Steam Whistle Brewing, Tilley, Harvard Kennedy School Women’s Leadership Board, LXRandCo, TKEES Kahuso, and Black Business and Professional Association. Previously she was Chief Administrative Officer, BMO Capital Markets and SVP Office of Strategic Management, BMO Financial Group. Val has been COO of several software companies in Canada, U.S., U.K., and Israel. She began her career as a strategy consultant at Kearney after a brief stint teaching business principles in Russia. She holds an Honours Bachelor in Anthropology and Biology from The University of Western Ontario, a Premier Diploma from the University of Grenoble and an MBA from the Ivey School of Business at The University of Western Ontario. Val is a past BSS parent.
Richard is a Partner at Penfund, a leading provider of junior capital to middle market companies throughout North America. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from The University of Western Ontario. Richard served as a Trustee from 2008 to 2014 and joined the Board of Governors in 2014. He is a current BSS parent, Chair of the Finance Committee and Co-chair of the Development Committee.
Alex is founder of Leman Group, a strategy execution firm working in sectors including banking, capital markets, wealth management, telecommunications, energy, information service, technology, software, automotive and manufacturing. Alex has been active in supporting and serving on a number of non-profit Boards building the community through healthcare, the arts, and children and youth. He is a current BSS parent. He also Chairs the Board’s Strategy Committee.
Kenny is a private equity investor, and served as EVP for 22 years at the Kilmer Group, a private family investment holding company, to extend and diversify interests in the sports, entertainment and media sectors. Prior to joining Kilmer, Kenny developed and marketed toys and games as Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Canada Games Company Limited. He is actively involved in the community and has served on several not-for-profit and corporate boards. He joined the BSS Board of Governors in 2011 and is a BSS past parent.
Jordan is Co-Founder and Managing Partner of CD Capital Developments, an industry-leading Canadian real estate development company with international roots. He is a Director of the Peter Munk Cardiac Center Innovation Committee, Co-Chair of the 2019 & 2020 Real Estate Hold’Em for Life Event, and a Co-Founder of the Kids for Kids Foundation. Jordan is a current BSS parent.
Royal has a background in both law and business. She is the founder and Director of K-Steel International Trading Inc., since 2006. She also is a co-founder and Director of Kidsnook Foundation (not-for-profit) and L&R Investment Inc. She holds a Bachelor Degree of Law in China and is passionate about running import and export, real estate development, and mortgage businesses. Royal is a current BSS parent.
Jonathan is Global Head of Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities, RBC Capital Markets, and leads a team of more than 700 professionals globally. He recently served an eight-year term as a member of the Board of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA), and was earlier this year elected as a director with RBC U.S. Group Holdings, LLC (RIHC). Jonathan was recognized by the Women in Capital Markets organization as a 2018 Champion of Change in acknowledgement of his ongoing efforts to drive diversity and inclusion in the workplace. He is also a key participant and contributor in RBC’s many community and charitable initiatives, including the RBC Race for the Kids and the United Way. Jonathan earned his Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Finance) from Queen's University in 1991, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He is a current BSS parent.
Devon serves as Senior Principal, Credit Investments at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and has been a Director at Wilton Re Limited since December 2016. She has previously served as Senior Principal, Direct Private Equity at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and as an Associate at Linklaters LLP in London. She is a CFA Charterholder and earned a JD from Harvard Law School (2009) and BCom from McGill University (2005). She graduated from BSS in 2001.
Pierre is recognized as one of Canada’s foremost experts in the area of mining and precious metals. He co-founded Franco-Nevada Mining Corporation in 1982 with Seymour Schulich and after 35 years as Chair of the Board, became Chairman Emeritus in May 2020. Among his many accomplishments are seven Honourary Doctorates in Engineering, Law and Business. He was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2001 and was Chair of the Canada Council for the Arts from 2015 to 2020. In 2019, Pierre was made a “Grand Officier” of the Quebec National Order and in March 2020, he was appointed Principal and Chair of the Board of École Polytechnique Montreal. Pierre has served as a BSS Trustee for several years, and is a current BSS parent.
Cheryl is the Managing Director of CLM Digital Consulting Inc., providing advisory services to firms with a concentration on Digital transformation strategy, modernizing organization structures for Digital and enterprise software evaluation and implementation. Previously, she was Vice-President, Digital Marketing at Investors Group, where she built the User Experience & Design and Product Development practices. In her career, Cheryl has led Digital Marketing, UX, Analytics and Product Management teams in financial services and e-commerce companies in Canada and the U.S. She holds an MS in Management and a BS in Business Administration (Finance) from Boston University. Cheryl is a BSS Old Girl, current parent and volunteer, and a member of the BSS Parent Association executive.
Sarah currently serves as a strategic advisor to several high-growth ventures. She has over 15 years of management consulting experience with industry-leading firms Kearney and Deloitte, where she focused on enterprise transformation and performance measurement, and was the co-founder of a successful digital media company. Prior to joining the BSS board in 2020, Sarah was an active member of the BSS Parent Association for over ten years. She serves on the boards of several not-for-profits, and has deep expertise in not-for-profit governance and advancement. She is a member of the Ivey Advisory Board and Chair of the Ivey Annual Fund. Sarah holds a BA (Honours) in Economics and Political Economy from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the Ivey Business School and Western University, and is a Chartered Professional Accountant. She is the parent of both a current student and a recent graduate of BSS.
Mark is a successful entrepreneur in the information technology space. Mark co-founded Clarity Systems in 1996 with a vision to improve the processes surrounding the Office of the CFO. He is now the Chief Investment Officer at INcapital Ventures, a venture capital firm that focuses on high-tech, Israeli-based companies. Mark is also an advisor at MaRS, an innovation centre located in Toronto. He holds an MBA and an HBSc, both from the University of Western Ontario, and is actively involved in the community, serving on several not-for-profit boards. He joined the BSS Board of Governors in 2013 and is a BSS parent.
Dr. Parekh is Associate Chief, Clinical Research and Senior Scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children, and is a Professor of Paediatrics and Medicine and Division Director of Nephrology at the Faculty of Medicine and Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. She is an international leader in clinical epidemiology and translational research in kidney disease and has a significant track record in mentorship and training. Dr. Parek has received several awards, and was recently named Canada Research Chair in Chronic Kidney Disease by the Canadian Institute of Health Research. She is the parent of a recent graduate at BSS.
Dr. Pell is a physician, medical consultant, lecturer in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto, and a children’s book author. Throughout her medical training in the U.S. and Canada, she has maintained a clinical and research focus on mental health and newcomer health, winning awards and grants for her work. She has been on the Executive Board of the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture and the RI Free Clinic, and was recently appointed as Trustee to the American John A. Hartford Foundation, which funds health research in aging. Dr. Pell graduated from Harvard University with a BA in Modern European History, Oxford University with an MSc in the History of Medicine, pursued graduate work at the University of California, San Diego in Medical Anthropology, and received her MD from Brown University. She finished her post-graduate training in family medicine at the University of Toronto. She is the parent of a current BSS student.
David is Chief Executive Officer for JPMorgan Chase Canada. He is responsible for the JPMorgan Chase Canada franchise and leads the JPMC Canada Foundation, which focuses on philanthropic investments in inclusive growth, diversity and education across the country. David is an advocate for Canada’s long term growth, competitiveness, prosperity and is a champion for diversity and inclusion. He is a member of the Business Council of Canada, sits on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Bankers Association and is a member of the Young Presidents’ Organization. In addition, David is a global ally for the JPMorgan Chase Black Organization for Leadership Development, is a founding member of the Coalition of Innovation Leaders Against Racism and previously served on the Cabinet of the United Way Toronto and York Region. He is a current BSS parent and, in addition to serving on the Board of Governors, is a member of the BSS Finance Committee.
Heather is the Founder of Eden Park Group which provides career coaching, executive coaching, and organizational development consulting. Previously, Heather co-founded a successful strategic consulting and business coaching organization, Stewart Clyde Consulting. Heather has held C-Suite executive roles in financial services as Executive Vice-President & Managing Director, Strategy & Business Management at National Bank Financial, and in consulting as a Partner, and Global Chief of Staff at Oliver Wyman, based in New York. Within the BSS community Heather has been on the Board of Governors and the Board of Trustees; she is a founding partner of the BSS Connect! Mentorship Program and is a Year Rep. Beyond BSS, Heather sits on a private Pension Plan Board, the Board at Trinity College at the University of Toronto, is a lay leader in the Anglican church, and was a co-founder of the Women in Capital Markets organization. Heather has a BA (Honours) from Trinity College at U of T, and an MSc in Organizational Psychology from the University of London (UK).
Rev. Canon Walker was appointed Incumbent of Grace Church on-the-Hill in 2009. He was educated at Lakefield College School, Trinity College, and Oxford. In addition to theological studies, he is a trained musician and founder of the Tallis Choir. He has served several parishes in the Anglican Diocese of Toronto, and is an ex-officio member of the Board, representing Bishop Asbil. He joined the Board of Governors in 2011.
Jodie is the Managing Director for Applied Intelligence in Canada at Accenture. In her role, Jodie works with clients to develop data and analytics strategies, discover sources of value and implement intelligence solutions. She also leads Accenture’s collaboration with business partners, government and academia, and oversees Accenture’s investments in the Canadian AI ecosystem. She is the host of the podcast series, the AI Effect. Jodie is a past BSS parent.
Craig is the National Business Leader and partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. His tax practice covers all aspects of tax relevant to business clients, with an emphasis on the investment management industry and structuring investment products. He has been a member of the BSS Board of Governors since 2015, and served as a Director of the Georgian Peaks Club for eight years, where he was President from 2011-2013. Craig is a current BSS parent.

Lorne is Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer, Burnac Produce Limited. Lorne graduated with an MBA from Schulich School of Business at York University in 1994 and went on to receive his CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) in 1998. Formerly with Gordon Capital, Merrill Lynch, and National Bank Financial, Lorne brings to this role over 20 years of diverse business experience from the investment community. He is a current BSS parent.
Andrea is the Global President of FCB/SIX, a specialist digital advertising agency. With more than two decades of communications experience, Andrea is considered an industry leader in the art of connecting brands to consumers in the digital and data age. Known as a change-agent with a creative vision, her agency is a top performing creative winner, is hailed as one of North America’s most progressive agencies of its time, and is a global top 30 digital agency based on efficacy scores. Andrea has spent her career promoting the development of women in the industry, including leading the launch of the Times-Up movement for Advertising in Canada. Andrea is a BSS Old Girl, BSS parent and Parent Association volunteer.
Sage is an entrepreneur, public speaker and BSS alumna. She is the CEO and co-founder of Crescendo, a software platform for building cultural competence and inclusivity in the workplace. Prior to founding Crescendo, Sage was a developer and educator at Microsoft, where she held a number of roles centered on cloud and emerging technologies including AI, mixed reality, and blockchain. Sage graduated from BSS in 2011 and went on to complete her Bachelor of Computer Science at Dalhousie University in 2016. She now splits her time between Toronto and Montreal, and speaks frequently on AI ethics, the future of work and equality in STEM.
Kelsey is the current President and CEO of Laurentian Securities and an EVP of Laurentian Bank of Canada. From 2007 to 2019 he was in various roles at BMO Capital Markets including Global Head of Trading Products where he was responsible for the trading-related businesses for the bank. He also held the role of Head of Global Equity Products where he was responsible for Cash Equities and Equity Derivatives, Research and Economics. Prior to joining BMO Capital Markets in 2007, Kelsey was at Credit Suisse Group in New York and CIBC in Toronto. Kelsey has been a member of United Way of Toronto and York Region Major Individual Giving Cabinet and sits on the Board of the Loran Scholarship Foundation where he chairs the Investment Committee. He holds an MBA from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia. He is a current BSS parent.
Linda is a business leader, investor and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in investment and business development in high tech and real estate industry. She is the founding partner of Unbounded Business Capital Inc., a Toronto based investment and consulting firm providing funds and management experience to early stage companies in Canada and US. She was a partner of Advantage Investment, a U.S.-based investment and consulting firm in charge of China as well as a partner of a Swiss high tech fund in charge of China; Before her fund experience, Linda worked 10 years for Verizon Communications Inc in the U.S. and China as senior business development executive. She has extensive international professional experience, having both lived and worked in Washington, DC, New York, Beijing, Vancouver and Toronto. Linda received her MBA at American University in Washington, DC. She is a current BSS parent.
Dennis is a General Partner at iNovia Capital, where he focuses on growth stage technology investments. As the former CFO/COO of RIM/Blackberry, he raised $1.5 billion in financing and grew the company from 20 to 14,000 employees. Dennis graduated in 1993 with a BBA from Wilfrid Laurier University, where he was President of his graduating class. He obtained his CA/CPA designation at KPMG, where he won the Governor General’s Award for finishing first in Canada on the Chartered Accountants Uniform National Examination (UFE). Dennis is currently on the board of the Golf Canada Foundation, and he and his wife Karen oversee The Kavelman Fonn Foundation. He is a current BSS parent.
Rob is a Senior Advisor with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). He advises BCG’s global institutional investors such as sovereign wealth funds, pension funds and private funds with investment strategy, execution and asset management. Prior to BCG, Rob was Executive Vice President, Private Investments for Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), one of Canada’s largest global institutional investment funds. Rob had responsibility for the Private Equity, Infrastructure, Real Estate, Timberland, Relationship Investing and Venture Capital portfolios on a global basis. Before joining AIMCo, Rob was an investment banker for almost 20 years advising Fortune 500, FTSE 100, TSX 60, and government clients across four continents while managing teams based out of London, New York and Toronto. Rob graduated from McGill University and the University of Toronto (Rotman School). He is a current BSS parent.
Robyn is the Vice President, Legal and Procurement at Fidelity Investments Canada. Prior to joining Fidelity in 2013, Robyn worked at Franklin Templeton Investments and at law firms in Toronto, New York and the Cayman Islands. Robyn is currently the Chair of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada’s (IFIC) Legal and Compliance Issues Committee and is a member of the Ontario Securities Commission’s Registrant Advisory Committee. Robyn obtained her LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School and her Master of Laws from New York University. She is a current BSS parent.
Melinda has served as Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors of Rogers Communications since January 2018, and as Vice Chair of Rogers Control Trust since 2008. She was also appointed a Director of Rogers Bank on December 31, 2017. Melinda has held progressively senior roles at Rogers since joining the company in 2000. Most recently, she was Founder of Rogers Venture Partners from 2011 to 2018. She also served as Senior Vice President, Strategy and Development from 2006 to 2014, Vice President, Strategic Planning & Venture Investments from 2004 to 2006, and Vice President, Venture Investments from 2000 to 2004. Melinda is on the Board of Directors for Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and is Chair of the Board of Jays Care Foundation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario and an MBA from Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. She was awarded an honorary doctorate from Huron University College at Western University in November 2018. Melinda lives in Toronto with her husband and four children.
Nicolle is Senior Director at retail experience company, Avida, where, as a member of the executive team, leads client programs and business operations. As the only woman on the executive team, Nicolle is dedicated to serving as the voice of women both in and outside of the company, and commits her time to women’s empowerment initiatives. Nicolle is Past President of Lean In Toronto, where she served for two years overseeing all aspects of the chapter and its 4000+ members (appointed as President by the Board in 2018). Nicolle earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Concordia University, attended McGill University for Public Relations, and in 2015, through her studies at the University of Toronto, was designated a Project Management Professional (PMP). Nicolle is currently completing her Executive MBA at Smith School of Business.
Lara is a senior Capital Markets professional with over two decades of experience in Global Public Equities. Most recently, she was a Managing Director at RBC Capital Markets who sold North American and European equity research and investment banking products to many of Canada’s largest institutional investors, including pension funds, bank-owned mutual funds and independent fund managers. A lead partner in RBC Women’s Leadership ETF, she has been an active mentor to junior men and women throughout her career. She currently sits on the UCC Foundation Board. Lara is a member of the CAMH campaign cabinet and also a past chair and current volunteer for the Special Olympics LIMITLESS Gala. She is a current BSS parent.
