Applications for Day students are accepted from August to December. We encourage all families to apply during this period. If you missed the deadline or you are relocating from a different city or country, please email us directly at studentrecruiting@bss.on.ca.
After your application and documentation are submitted, you will have access to our online interview booking site. You will be able to pick a time that works for your family.
Day applicants who submitted their application by the December deadline will receive a decision by the third week of February, on the Common Offer Day, in line with other independent schools in Toronto. All admissions decisions are communicated by email.
The Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) is a standardized test used by admission officers to assess the abilities of students seeking to enroll in an independent school.
Day and Boarding applicants applying for Grades 9 - 11 for the 2021-22 school year will be required to write the SSAT and complete the SSAT Character Skills Snapshot.
Families can register for the test at ssat.org. The SSAT may be written any time before the end of January, which will allow enough time for BSS to receive the scores. Please make sure that The Bishop Strachan School is selected as a score recipient when registering for the SSAT.
This year, applicants living in Canada or the U.S. may write the SSAT at home or at a Prometric Test Centre. International applicants should visit ssat.org for testing centre locations and dates. If there are no open test centres in your region, please contact us by email at studentrecruiting@bss.on.ca.
Junior Kindergarten assessments will take place in early February. We will contact you with more details once we receive your online application. Applicants applying to Grades 3, 5, 6 and 7 will be required to complete an online assessment in January 2021. Applicants applying to Grades 9 - 11 will be required to take the SSAT by the end of January.
Junior School Junior and Senior Kindergarten applicants come together in small groups and spend time in our classroom, engaging in fun activities with our teachers. Applicants in Grades 1 - 6 also complete a math and English test, as well as group activities and games.
Middle and Senior School Assessments in the Middle and Senior School include math and literacy tests.
We admit one class for Junior Kindergarten, and Grades 3, 6 and 7, and two classes in Grade 9. The intake for non-entry years depends on our re-enrollment numbers.
Yes, you are still able to apply for a non-entry year. Our availability in those grades will depend mainly on our re-enrollment numbers. If you are applying for Grades 1, 2 or 5, interviews and assessments will occur as space becomes available.
Unfortunately, we do not admit students going into Grade 12. The academic workload, university applications and extracurricular activities make it difficult for new students to transition smoothly in their last year of high school.
