  • Does The Bishop Strachan School require the SSAT?

The Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) is a standardized test used by admission officers to assess the abilities of students seeking to enrol in an independent school.

BSS does not require the SSAT for students entering any grade. Applicants must complete our own school assessment. International students (Grades 8 - 11) may submit the SSAT if they are unable to complete our own assessment.

International families can register for the test at ssat.org. The SSAT may be written any time before the end of January, which will allow enough time for BSS to receive the scores. Please make sure that The Bishop Strachan School is selected as a score recipient when registering for the SSAT.
  • When will BSS assessments take place?

Applicants applying to Grade 4 and 6 will complete an assessment in December 2022. Junior Kindergarten and Grades 1, 2 and 3 assessments will take place in January 2023. Those applying to Grades 7, 9, 10 and 11 will complete an assessment in December 2022 or January 2023. We will contact you with more details once we receive your online application.
  • What is involved in the BSS assessment?

    Junior School
Junior and Senior Kindergarten applicants come together in small groups and spend time in our classroom, engaging in fun activities with our teachers. Applicants in Grades 1 - 6 also complete a math and English test, as well as group activities and games.

    Middle and Senior School
Assessments in the Middle and Senior School include math and literacy tests.

There is no need to prepare or study in advance for the assessment. Learn more about the assessment process.
