Admissions FAQ

On average, we have between 20 and 24 students in each class, with the exception of our primary classes (Grades 1 - 3), where the classes have between 16 - 18 students.

We are unable to enroll students once the academic year has started, as our classes are full.

Yes, you are still able to apply for a non-entry year. Our availability in those grades will depend mainly on our re-enrollment numbers. If you are applying for SK, Grade 2, 3, 5, 8, 10 or 11 (Day), interviews and assessments will occur as space becomes available.

Our main entry years for the 2024-25 academic year are:

Day School

• Junior School - Junior Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 4 and Grade 6
• Middle and Senior School - Grade 7 and 9

Boarding

• Grades 8 - 11

Unfortunately, we do not admit students going into Grade 12. The academic workload, university applications and extracurricular activities make it difficult for new students to transition smoothly in their last year of high school.

Since its founding in 1867, The Bishop Strachan School has been committed to the empowerment of girls and women. Our mission is to inspire girls to be fearless and educate girls to be leaders. BSS welcomes applications from any candidate who identifies as a girl, and also from non-binary students who were assigned female at birth and feel comfortable attending a girls' school.

Applications for Day students are accepted from September to December 1, 2024. We encourage all families to apply during this period. If you missed the deadline or you are relocating from a different city or country, please email us directly at enrolment@bss.on.ca.

Boarding applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Space is limited, so please apply early.

After your application and documentation are submitted, you will have access to our online interview booking site. You will be able to pick a time that works for your family.

The Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) is a standardized test used by admission officers to assess the abilities of students seeking to enrol in an independent school.

BSS does not require the SSAT for students entering any grade. Applicants must complete the BSS school assessment. International students and other students living outside the Greater Toronto Area will be asked to complete a virtual assessment.

Assessment dates for JK, Grades 1, 4, 6, 7 and 9 will be scheduled in December or January. We will provide more details once we receive your online application.

Junior School
Junior and Senior Kindergarten applicants come together in small groups and spend time in our classroom, engaging in fun activities with our teachers. Applicants in Grades 1 - 6 also complete a math and English test, as well as group activities and games.
