Congratulations to BSS alumna Lydia SUN ’25, who successfully published a research paper after participating in Harvard Student Agencies’ Learn with Leaders Research Scholars Program.
This incredible co-curricular Global Learning opportunity teaches research methodologies and academic writing to students in Grades 8 - 12 under the guidance of qualified mentors. Student participants then complete a 1,500-2,000 word thesis. Lydia’s paper, entitled “Alzheimer’s Disease and Its Effect on Humans,” was subsequently published in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Enhanced Research in Educational Development. It is a comprehensive review of the current, up-to-date research on treatments for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the impact of AD on quality of life for patients and caregivers, and the external and environmental factors that may have a role in causing AD.
According to Aakriti Jain, Learn with Leaders Head of School Partnerships, “Publishing a neuroscience paper in Grade 10 that engages with the mechanisms and human impact of a leading cause of dementia speaks to both Lydia’s intellectual curiosity and the academic environment at BSS.”
Since graduating from BSS in 2025, Lydia has been studying public health at Johns Hopkins University, with plans to pursue neuroscience research as a career. She is also the President and Founder of Cognitive Compass Connections, a non-profit dedicated to fostering advancements in research and safety measures that can make a lasting, positive impact on those affected by Alzheimer’s.
