Getting into the Game

Whether trying a sport for the first time or training for elite competition, BSS students have extraordinary opportunities to build skills, grow as competitors and develop a lifelong love for staying active. Here are some recent highlights.
Junior School
Our Junior School athletes are off to a great start this fall season. Grade 1 and 2 students are rotating through dynamic activities like taekwondo, basketball and soccer, while Grade 3 students build foundational physical literacy through cross-country during weekly Community Time athletics sessions. Meanwhile, Grades 4 - 6 co-curricular teams are well into a busy competition schedule across swimming, soccer, basketball and cross-country.

Middle and Senior School
Our U14 Soccer team recently surged to the semi-finals at the CAIS National Tournament in Halifax, while our Senior Division 1 Soccer team brought home a thrilling 2-0 victory over Havergal in front of a huge crowd of cheering Bobcat fans at Friday Night Lights.

High Performance Athlete Program
For elite competitors, the High Performance Athlete Program (HPAP) supports 62 students competing across 20 sports at provincial, national and international levels. Tailored resources and sessions with athletic and healthcare experts help these student-athletes excel seamlessly in both their sport and the classroom. Recently, students heard from physiologist and best-selling author Dr. Greg Wells in the first of four sessions covering healthy habits that can improve performance, including sleep, nutrition and mental wellness. Next week, registered dietitian and Olympian Alanna Dickie will speak to students about the importance of nutrition for female athletes, as well as offering an evening session for parents and coaches. HPAP participants also have access to on-site physiotherapy with external providers, allowing them to prioritize their health with less stress on their schedule.

Lang Scholar Program
Leadership off the field is equally vital. Our Lang Scholar Program empowers student-athletes through mentorship, leadership enrichment and service opportunities. Recent highlights include a transformative retreat, connecting with alumnae mentors like Sportsnet broadcaster Ailish FORFAR '12, and a collaborative cultural learning trip to the Canadian Canoe Museum during National Truth and Reconciliation Week.
