Alumnae Giving

For more than 150 years, alumnae have contributed to the life of our school long after their graduation. This deep connection reflects the enduring values of their BSS experience, and their desire to give back to the school that helped shape their lives.
Alumnae give back not only as an expression of gratitude but also as a way of preserving and enhancing the legacy of BSS. They choose to direct their donations to various meaningful priorities, including individual Class Funds, the Old Girls’ Association Bursary Fund, or areas that resonate with their time at BSS, including the arts, athletics, Boarding, academics or co-curricular programs. Whether large or small, each gift strengthens our ability to offer a world-class education, and prepare future generations of BSS students to lead with confidence and compassion.

Funding Priorities

List of 6 items.

  • Financial Assistance

Contributions to financial assistance help cover the full student experience, including tuition, school trips, supplies, uniforms and technology, so that more students of grit, character and promise can access a BSS education, regardless of their financial background.

As an alumna, you can support our efforts by giving through an endowed gift or an expendable gift.

An endowed gift is a lasting donation invested to generate interest, which is then used to fund various programs. This ensures that contributions have a long-term impact, providing continuous support for students and programs. You can contribute to an endowed gift by supporting the following funds:
    • The Old Girls’ Association Bursary Fund: Invest in the future of talented young women by contributing to this fund that’s only available to alumnae. You can ensure that future students have the opportunity to learn, grow and lead at BSS and beyond, just as you did.
    • Class Funds: Over the years, many graduating classes have created a Class Fund to commemorate their time at BSS and support future students. This tradition not only reinforces our culture of philanthropy, but also leaves a lasting legacy that inspires future generations to continue giving back.
An expendable gift is a donation that is spent entirely within the fiscal year, ensuring immediate impact. This type of giving helps sustain projects and meets urgent needs within the school community. By supporting the Financial Assistance program, you are ensuring that more students can become curious, resilient learners who speak for themselves and lead others.
  • Arts

Through the arts, students nurture their creativity, build confidence and find their voice. Your gift helps enrich programs like drama, visual arts and music by providing essential resources such as new pianos for our Music Department.
  • Athletics

We know that participating in athletics builds teamwork, confidence and resilience. Your gift ensures students grow through sport and enables upgrades like new scoreboards for volleyball and basketball.
  • Boarding

By contributing to Boarding, you’re providing a nurturing environment that fosters students’ growth as leaders and community members. Funds are directed towards programming such as off-campus trips, celebrations and family dinners, where boarders can take on leadership roles, challenge themselves and learn valuable life skills.
  • Academic Programs

Supporting our academic programs allows us to welcome visiting authors and experts, including Jamaican-Canadian author Zalika Reid-Benta, who shared her collection of work with Grade 10 students. Experts like these bring valuable insights, fresh perspectives, and real-world knowledge to augment our students’ learning.
  • Co-Curricular Programs

Co-curricular programs spark curiosity, creativity and leadership beyond the classroom. Your contributions provide the tools students need to thrive, like updated equipment for the Hudson Theatre, which has enhanced the production experience of every performance.

Reunion Giving

Each year, we celebrate our alumnae during Reunion, drawing Old Girls from around the world back to our campus to reconnect, renew friendships and engage with the school and one another. During Reunion, many alumnae choose to donate to BSS to honour their milestone graduation year and give back.
