The BSS Classroom Experience

At BSS, learning is an active, reflective and collaborative journey. Across grade levels and disciplines, we intentionally weave together core curriculum with social-emotional growth, critical thinking and real-world applications.
By encouraging students to explore who they are and how they connect with the world around them, we foster a community of curious, dynamic learners. Here is a glimpse of how this holistic approach comes to life throughout the school.

Building Community and Literacy in Grade 3
After analyzing a thought-provoking media clip, Grade 3 students used a "table" as a metaphor for inclusivity. They engaged in vibrant oral discussions about what a welcoming classroom looks, sounds and feels like, reflecting on how their individual contributions build belonging before translating their thoughts into persuasive written pieces.

Expressing Identity in Grade 8 French
To launch their Mes Réseaux (My Networks) unit, Grade 8 French students created tactile flip-books sharing their personalities, passions and fears using prompts like "J'adore" and "4 mots qui me décrivent." Displayed in the hallways, these projects allowed students to hone their language skills while strengthening connections across their classroom and the wider school community.

Experiencing Science in Grade 9
In Grade 9 Science, students investigated physical and chemical changes by observing potassium metal react dynamically with water, producing gas, heat, and flame. Students observed the key indicators of chemical reactions firsthand, turning foundational scientific concepts into an unforgettable visual experience.

Through engaging, student-centered experiences like these, our educators empower students to think critically, communicate effectively and grow into confident leaders.
