Our High Performance Athlete Program (HPAP) provides the tailored resources elite competitors need to excel in both sports and academics, including practical, evidence-based insights from top-calibre athletic and healthcare professionals.
Recently, we hosted physiologist and best-selling author Dr. Greg Wells for an insightful session on optimizing sleep for performance and health. Dr. Wells unpacked the science of recovery, explaining how 8 to 10 hours of sleep rewires the brain, boosts immune function and directly influences academic achievement. He provided tangible strategies for "protecting your last hour" before bed (such as managing screen exposure and practicing progressive muscle relaxation), while emphasizing the time-management discipline required to balance elite training with schoolwork.
Complementing this focus on physical recovery, 2020 kayak Olympian and registered dietitian Alanna Dickie led an engaging workshop on sport-specific fueling for female athletes. Drawing from her background at Sunnybrook Hospital and elite competition, Dickie addressed the critical risks of under-fueling and guided students on tailoring nutrition to match training intensity. By equipping student-athletes with the tools to fuel their bodies and recover, HPAP ensures they build sustainable habits for lifelong health and peak performance.
