Courage and Belonging at the COSSOT Leadership Conference
A group of Grade 7 and 8 students recently embraced the opportunity to develop real-world communication and leadership skills that directly enrich our school community.
Accompanied by BSS faculty, delegates traveled to Upper Canada College for the annual Coalition of Single Sex Schools of Toronto (COSSOT) Middle School Leadership Conference, co-hosted with St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School. Centered on the inspiring theme “Building Courage, Creating Belonging,” the Saturday gathering brought together more than 100 students from independent schools across the GTA, including Havergal College, Branksome Hall, Crescent School, Royal St. George’s College, St. Anne’s College and St. Andrew’s College.
Throughout the day, students engaged in interactive communication challenges and small-group workshops facilitated by senior student leaders. From practicing active listening and everyday leadership to taking a "Courage to be Kind" pledge (symbolized by bracelets they proudly wore home), students explored what it means to foster inclusivity. They returned to BSS with actionable insights, ready to apply these new collaboration skills and enrich our campus culture.
