We were proud to host the finals of the Unexpected Voices Speech Competition, welcoming more than 220 guests for a day of powerful storytelling.
The Unexpected Voices Speech Competition, presented by the Power of Words Academy in collaboration with World Speech Day, brings together young Canadians ages 7 - 16 to share their vision for a more sustainable, equitable and peaceful future. This year’s competition challenged students to “Speak As A World Citizen” by addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Beyond raising awareness about global issues and amplifying youth voices, the competition also offers an opportunity for students to sharpen their skills in communication and leadership.
This year, more than 500 speeches were submitted nationally, with just 77 students selected as finalists. We were especially proud to see BSS represented by four finalists: Jimin L '32, Elizabeth H '32, Aurelia W '27 and Silvia J '28. Congratulations to Jimin, who placed second in the Ages 11-12 category, and Silvia, who placed third in the Ages 13-16 category.
A special thank you to our Global Awareness Council members for leading remarks, supporting registration and serving as ambassadors throughout the day.
