We are thrilled to announce the first recipients of the BSS Volunteer Service Award, which honours parents and alumnae who have made a meaningful impact on our community through their volunteer work.
This year’s recipients have supported students and helped create a warm, inclusive environment, exemplifying the Signature of a BSS Girl in action at school. Madam Justice Jane KELLY ’82
Parent of Katherine BANNISTER ’24
Madam Justice Jane KELLY ’82, a past BSS parent, has been practicing law since 1990. Over her career, she worked at Fasken, in the Scarborough Crown Attorney’s office and as defense counsel before being appointed to the Superior Court of Justice. She led the criminal team in Toronto for seven years and now presides over long criminal cases. In addition to having served on the BSS Board of Governors, Madam Justice Kelly has had a lasting impact on senior law students and alumnae. From speaking at the Signature of a BSS Girl in Law event to inviting Grade 12 Law students to observe legal proceedings and offering co-op placements and invaluable advice, she continues to mentor and inspire future generations of BSS students pursuing careers in law.
Jason Leung
Parent of Rachel ’25 and Abigail ’28
Jason is the Principal and Founding Lawyer of Leung Law, a Toronto-based intellectual property firm. He earned his JD from the University of Toronto after completing an Honours degree in biology (BSc) at the University of Western Ontario. As a Grade Representative, Senior School Coordinator, Buddy Program Coordinator and event volunteer, Jason is well-known for his energetic, welcoming and helpful presence around campus. Just a few examples of Jason’s dedication include providing notary services to families of students travelling on global exchanges, organizing off-campus socials, coordinating and updating parent chats, connecting families with school staff, and volunteering in numerous capacities at events. His passion for keeping BSS families connected, informed and supported has made an enduring impact on our community.
Ellen Levy
Parent of Alexa ’29
Ellen Levy has been a member of the Parent Association for more than four years. As Events Chair, she led the planning and coordination of the Bobcat Fair and Bobcat Breakfasts. She also played a key role in organizing beloved BSS events, including cultural celebrations, Under the Stars, the Welcome Back BBQ, and multiple Faculty and Staff Appreciation Days throughout her time in this role. Prior to joining the PA, she volunteered on a weekly basis for two years in the General Store. Always going above and beyond behind the scenes, Ellen is a true example of quiet leadership. Her attention to detail, commitment to excellence and dependability are deeply valued by many members of our community.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at yesterday's evening of appreciation to celebrate our volunteers! It was a joy to recognize the many individuals who give their time, skills and energy to support our school. Volunteers play a vital role in advancing our mission to empower girls through education. Through their voice, leadership and service, they inspire students and strengthen our community.
