London Calling

This fall, a group of Grade 9 - 12 students took a week-long trip to London, England, immersing themselves in the rich historical and cultural experiences of the city.
Throughout the week, visual art and design students participated in several hands-on workshops connecting classroom learning to creative practice. The group participated in an innovative upcycling session led by alumna Clara CHU '13, reviving household items that were destined for the landfill, connecting sustainability with creative design. Students also put their observational skills to work with a full-day life drawing workshop.

London's creative landscape served as a backdrop for the group’s exploration of art and design in the city. They enjoyed walking tours of the city's iconic neighbourhoods and landmarks, alongside visits to major institutions such as the Tate Britain, the Design Museum and the Serpentine Galleries, allowing students the opportunity to gather inspiration for their own design projects.

Expanding on this exploration, students also engaged in an immersive, behind-the-scenes look at film design and production while discovering the magic of the Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studios. They concluded the week with a showing of the classic musical Les Misérables in the famous West End theatre district.

Students returned inspired and ready to apply their new skills and creative ideas to their own design projects and studies at BSS.
