Lara is an associate at the Toronto JFK office. She works with Indigenous clients to advance the recognition and implementation of Indigenous laws and the exercise of inherent, Aboriginal and Treaty rights within Canada’s legal system. Lara’s practice encompasses Indigenous laws and governance work, regulatory and environmental matters, Aboriginal and Treaty rights litigation, and constitutional and public law litigation with a focus on equality rights and anti-discrimination law and policy matters. Lara has appeared before administrative tribunals, at all levels of court in Ontario, and at both the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal. Lara has a background in international human rights law with a particular focus on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Lara’s international human rights work has focused on the domestic recognition of Indigenous and women’s rights at the same level of protection as prescribed in international human rights law.
