Atelier Explorations

In the Junior School Atelier, Grade 3 students worked in research groups to explore different facets of water.
In a nearby ravine, one group studied the flow of water, using logs and sticks to create dams and bridges. Another group went on a hunt for the creek’s beginning; when they couldn’t find one, they began to wonder more deeply about the water cycle. In the classroom, students set up a mini water laboratory to study samples from the creek. Using magnifying glasses and microscopes, they observed the qualities of the water and sediment. They read relevant books to continue their inquiry and practice their literacy skills. Finally, they consolidated and expressed their knowledge by writing creative stories and poetry, through movement and collaborating on a piece of art that represented the creek.
