Representing Big Ideas

In Senior Visual Arts, students undertake ambitious summative projects as the culmination of their creative process and learning.
For example, in Grade 11 Visual Arts, students represented time and temporality through a static medium such as painting or drawing. They explored the essence of time by delving into concepts such as transformation, emergence and disappearance, memory and more. For their summative project, Grade 12 students explored the concepts of multiplicity, repetition and modularity. The resulting multi-part artworks probed the relationship between individual parts and the overall whole through diverse representations such as rhythms, patterns, grids and series. These projects honed their skills in applying design principles and techniques to achieve specific effects. Students learned to conceive, execute and reflect on complex projects using their preferred artistic elements to visually convey emotions, ideas and issues.
