Navigating Digital Childhoods

On January 27, BSS parents came together for the inaugural Article Club, a joint initiative of the Parent Association and Well-Being Team designed to create welcoming, purposeful spaces to discuss timely topics affecting our children.
For this first session, the conversation centered on how to support children and youth to develop healthy digital habits. Guided by Jonathan Haidt’s research and Dr. Laurie Santos’s podcast episode, “How Smartphones Changed Childhood (And What To Do About It),” parents engaged in a focused, solutions-oriented dialogue. Rather than simply listing the challenges of screen time, the group explored how to navigate technology with care and clarity.

Discussions moved beyond strict rules, emphasizing a holistic approach to well-being that includes sleep, relationships and emotional regulation. Parents connected over shared experiences and left with practical strategies, such as modeling mindful tech habits and creating tech-free family zones.

This initiative highlights our shared commitment to leading with evidence-informed practices. We’re looking forward to the next Article Club in April, as we continue to support the well-being of every student together.
