Every March, International Women’s Day (IWD) recognizes the social, economic and political contributions of women worldwide. It also serves as a vital call to action to challenge gender discrimination and take meaningful steps toward equality.
On March 5, students and staff across the school took part in our annual Girls’ March. Launched in 2018 by Halle JAIN ’24, the march embodies our mission to inspire girls to be fearless and educate them to be leaders. Originally started as a show of solidarity with the Women’s March, it has since grown into an annual school-wide event.
At the opening assembly for this year’s march, student leaders reflected on the significant achievements of women who may not be well-known, but who had a major impact on the world. They reminded us that progress doesn’t happen on its own, but takes hard work and dedication, and spoke about the power of allyship. They were followed by participants in the Shoebox Project, including three BSS parents, who reflected on this year’s IWD theme, “Give to Gain.” The Shoebox Project is a Canadian charity that uplifts and empowers women who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness through in-kind support, education and community participation.
