On October 22, our inaugural Lang Scholars attended their first Mentorship Morning, Bagels and Big Ideas.
The Lang Scholar Program is made possible by a transformational $6.1 million gift from philanthropist Stu Lang and designed to inspire tomorrow’s female changemakers. Each year, up to 15 students who demonstrate the traits of the Signature of a BSS Girl and an exceptional commitment to athletics and academics are selected for the program, which offers leadership development, mentorship and the chance to apply their skills in service to their communities.
At this week’s event, the Scholars connected with their alumnae mentors over breakfast, sharing their leadership goals and what they hope to get out of this experience. They also heard from two inspiring speakers who shared their personal and professional insights as leaders in athletics and wellness. Tanya KOLOLIAN ’06 talked about finding her voice at BSS and shifting to well-being advocacy after a career in real estate, including the importance of self-care in being an effective leader. Olympian Jennifer “JJ” HAWKRIGG ’14 spoke about navigating the challenges she faced as an elite athlete, balancing academics with training and competition, and shared lessons of resilience from her experience as a member of the Canadian Olympic snowboarding team. These conversations sparked meaningful connections and inspired our Scholars to envision the many ways they, too, can shape the future of female leadership.
