Balancing Challenge and Fun at Our Day School for Girls

The Bishop Strachan School is a place where students enjoy personal and social enrichment, as well as academic achievement. We believe that opportunities for learning go well beyond the classroom, and are found in the wide variety of athletic, social and outdoor activities on offer at BSS.
That’s why we aim to build a more enriching educational experience that gives students the credentials for success and a strong foundation for personal development. BSS students build collaborative skills, creativity and confidence – qualities that will support both their academic and personal futures. Learn more about how the BSS experience strikes the right balance between challenge and fun for our students.

Discover New Passions at Our Middle School for Girls

Our Junior and Middle Schools are where students are first introduced to new activities and skills that can ignite their passions. Students have the chance to discover the world outside of the classroom and challenge themselves on a personal level.

For those looking to develop confidence in themselves as athletes, we offer sports such as basketball, cross country, soccer, tennis, swimming, volleyball and more. Our Fun Plus program introduces Junior School students to new activities and skills – everything from ballet and coding to chess, self-defence, jewelry making and musical theatre.

Whatever their passion, students at BSS benefit from a welcoming community that supports personal growth while creating meaningful memories and opportunities for lifelong friendships.

Create Lifelong Memories With Your Peers

The social experience at BSS is as valuable to our students as the academic curriculum we offer. As an all girls school, BSS is dedicated to the growth and development of young women into strong and effective leaders. This begins at an early age, where each student’s potential is
cultivated through collaboration. They find joy and satisfaction in working alongside their peers to overcome new challenges and support one another.

Opportunities to develop close friendships happen inside and outside the classroom. For example, outdoor excursions are an important part of life at our day school for girls. The younger students embark on half-day trips to explore the local ravine. Beginning in Grade 3, students take overnight trips for one to three nights. Starting with one night away, and building up to three nights by Grade 6, these trips are a chance for students to challenge themselves in a new environment while creating unforgettable memories.

Develop Core Academic Skills

BSS is known for providing students with an inquiry-based method of teaching that nurtures a love of learning. Here, students focus on key academic areas, including STEM, Social Studies, English, Visual Arts, Drama and more. In each subject, students at our middle school for girls are challenged appropriately with the goal to instill resilience, confidence and curiosity.

First and foremost, BSS girls drive their own learning; they are encouraged to test their ideas, ask tough questions, make mistakes and learn in a spirit of exploration and discovery. Our students embrace complexity and see academic challenges as a chance to learn more about the world around them. Through the process of puzzling out real-world problems, they gain an approach to learning that will serve them well in the Senior School and beyond.
