Senior School (Grades 9 to 12)

When a girl enters BSS Senior School, she’s not just taking the first step on her journey to academic success, she’s joining an encouraging and inclusive community where she can expect to be challenged, supported and enriched every day. As a result, when the day comes for her to leave BSS, she’ll step into the world as a capable, compassionate young woman who knows herself, and is ready for anything.

Senior School Academics

Our students are prepared for postsecondary study with a comprehensive academic program designed to cultivate exemplary communication skills and a passion for learning. An interdisciplinary approach encourages students to explore their interests and develop an understanding of the way different fields of study intersect. Combined with authentic, meaningful assignments that tackle real-world problems, this creates engaged, enthusiastic learners who are ready to thrive at the world’s top universities. (And they do! We implement and exceed the renowned Ontario Curriculum, blending it with our unique Culture of Powerful Learning to create an experience that engages students through inquiry and encourages them to ask big questions. Project and problem-based learning and experiential education come together to form an inquiry-based pedagogy that encourages inquiry and promotes the key principals at the heart of our approach.

Our Advanced Placement offerings gives students an opportunity to explore university-level materials and gain academic credits that Canadian and international universities will notice during the admissions process. AP Capstone Brochure.

Online learning provides students with a convenient way to learn from top Ontario teachers and earn high school credits, wherever they are.

Co-operative Education

The Co-operative Education (Co-op) program is a unique, optional course that allows Grade 11 and 12 students to gain real-world experience in a particular field of interest. It combines in-class learning with periods of experiential learning at a non-profit or business placement. Twice a week for three hours from mid-October to May, students network with employers, gain valuable work experience and earn an academic credit. Are you an employer looking to offer an outstanding student a Co-op placement?

Student Leadership

BSS Senior School is a vibrant place to be. Grade 9 girls explore new challenges and expectations, and surprise themselves by all they can do. By Grade 12, they have one foot in the demanding and emotional last year of high school and the other well on the path to their very bright future. Our Senior girls look out for each other and the younger girls on campus, and they all have ample opportunities to practice being competent and confident leaders. Local and Global Experiences

Truly powerful learning can’t be restricted to the classroom. Exploring nature, discovering diverse cultures and helping their communities, our girls develop an understanding of the connections and responsibilities that define their relationship to the world, empowering them to transform their communities both locally and globally.

  • Our Outdoor and Environmental Education (OEE) program instills students with an abiding sense of care and responsibility for the well-being of their communities and planet Earth.
  • Before they can become women who change the world, our girls need an opportunity to explore it. Whether on a life-changing trip to Jamaica, chatting with students in Rwanda over SKYPE, dogsledding in Northern Ontario or studying in Spain or France via an exchange program, BSS girls are given a chance to step into the world and experience it!
  • Our far-reaching Service Leadership program gives students a chance to find meaning, fulfillment and motivation by supporting diverse communities – locally and globally.

Senior School Spaces

Our Senior School spaces are filled with contagious energy – you’ll hear lots of laughs and conversations in the hallways as girls move from class to class and activity to activity. And soon, we’ll have an outstanding new space for our students when our arts/athletics/STEM wing opens in spring 2017.
