BSS Visual and Performing Arts
What is life, or learning, without the arts? Our community never has to find out because the arts are abundant at BSS. Music, visual and media art, theatre, dance – it all lives here, in all grades. It’s not an add-on to our curriculum, but an integral part of discovering oneself. All senses are stimulated, all parts of the human experience explored. The arts intersects seamlessly with academics at BSS, and each are richer for it.
BSS Music Night
The visual arts at BSS enhance and encourage students’ creativity, critical assessment skills and resilience for revision and refinement. We mostly love that using a variety of media to create a personal, meaningful piece of art instills a sense of discovery and self-realization in our girls – at every age. At any given time, you can see this process come alive in our hallways- with student artwork that provokes, questions and astounds.
A little song. A little dance. A lot of fun so take the chance! You don’t have to be the star of the show to find performing arts at BSS an experience of a lifetime. Pick up an instrument for the first time and watch how quickly you progress. Join a dance class and learn to fly. Sing a lot in the shower? Try it dry. And from the stage. You really CAN do it. Our teachers are excited to help you uncover your talents and find your creative voice through music, dance, drama or media arts. View 2017-18 Theatre Season.
We think it’s an excellent idea to intersect the arts into other areas of our curriculum. So we do. It’s a lot easier to learn how a human cell works when you create a papier-mâché version. History comes alive when you produce a video – starring a few classmates – to tell that story. Explaining a complex social issue is a lot more interesting when you interpret is through dance, or depict it in a series of photos. The arts takes school work and makes it sing.
Art in Action
There’s a creative place within us all that wants to come out. There’s space at BSS to let it. We are constantly moved by the art our students make. Take a look.
