Voices of Leadership

Summer Leadership Program
Porter’s Center for Global Leadership (PCGL) and The Bishop Strachan School (BSS) present Voices of Leadership, a summer program for BSS students entering Grades 9 and 10.
Bringing together our schools’ collective knowledge, networks and shared missions, Voices of Leadership is an opportunity for the next generation of female leaders to develop their skills, confidence and agency.

What is Voices of Leadership?

Are there issues you feel passionate about but you’re not sure how to make a difference? Voices of Leadership (VoL) is an innovative one-week program in partnership with Porter's Center for Global Leadership that will inspire and empower you to become a leader and changemaker.

In this program, you will:

  • Explore how your values, beliefs and experiences shape your approach to leadership, drawing on the history of changemaking, the role of young women in making change historically and the examples set by contemporary women leaders.
  • Identify and develop your own strengths, confidence and agency, and learn to use problem-solving, collaboration and a people-centered framework to explore the local contours of global problems.
  • Learn the tools to solve the problems facing your schools, communities and the world.
By engaging with fellow students, program facilitators and speakers, and participating in hands-on experiences, you will learn how to:

  • Interpret social issues centering the experiences of girls and women
  • Navigate problem-solving and decision-making as individuals and in a group
  • Develop an individualized approach to passion-driven changemaking and leadership
You will return to school in the fall feeling more confident as a communicator, problem solver and leader, with a greater curiosity about the world and a deeper awareness of experiences that differ from your own. You will better understand who you are, where you come from, and how your own lived experience, knowledge and skills can make an impact. Most importantly, you will learn how to use the information and resources available to you to understand and address the complex issues facing girls and women.
