Middle School Reads

Modeled on CBC Radio’s Canada Reads, Middle School Reads is an annual program that engages students in reading and reflection through passionate debate.
Each year’s theme - such as “A book that strikes a match” or “A book that expands our horizons” - prompts students to seek out books that challenge, inspire, provoke and speak to them. The program is designed to support and stretch students’ individual interests and reading levels. Culminating in a debate in which students persuasively defend the top books to their peers, Middle School Reads helps students gain skills in literacy, critical reflection and public speaking.
